Taylor Swift’s ‘Sad Cat’ Meme Goes Viral on Twitter, Facebook Amid Cat-Masking Debate
Taylor Swift, the pop star and songwriter, has become a viral internet meme with a photo of herself wearing a cat mask.
The meme has already racked up more than 2 million retweets and 2 million likes since Wednesday morning, according to Twitter analytics company InstaPanda.
It’s one of the most popular memes from the artist’s career, and one that has also gained traction on Facebook.
“Sad Cat,” as the meme is called, was created by Tumblr user @taylorswift and has garnered more than 4 million likes.
“I’m always down for a cat and I love cats,” the artist wrote.
“You know the ones that are scared of the moon and the sun?”
She continued, “But cats can be funny.”
Taylor Swift also retweeted the meme, which has been viewed more than 3 million times and is currently at the top of her fan base on Instagram.
“They’re adorable, too!” the artist captioned the image.
“And that cat mask, it makes it super easy to look like a cat.”
Swift was featured in a video uploaded on Tuesday featuring her and her friends wearing a Cat-Eye mask.
She captioned it, “That’s me with a cat.
And it makes me look like the coolest person on the planet.”
Swift is a cat person herself.
The singer is known for her “You Belong With Me” music video and is an avid cat owner.
Her husband, singer John Legend, was the first person to own a cat when he adopted a male cat named Shaggy in 2005.
The two have four cats, including a cat named Tuff.
A spokesperson for Taylor Swift confirmed to The Huffington Post on Wednesday that the star and her cat had a catfight.
“Taylor and her husband are very protective of their cats and have been since their childhood,” the spokesperson told HuffPost.
“While the two have had several fights with cats, they are very gentle and love their cats, which is why they chose this mask to celebrate the power of love.”
Swift has been vocal about cat-related issues on social media, including in a recent tweet that she posted about cat owners who are responsible for their cats’ safety.
“There are so many people who are really, really bad at it,” she wrote in reference to cat owners.
“But there are some of us who can actually get away with it.
I’m not saying you’re right, but you’re just wrong.”
Swift did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the cat mask incident.
The artist is also the subject of an ongoing cat-themed investigation.
Earlier this week, the Humane Society of the United States announced that it is investigating allegations that Taylor Swift and her co-stars, Justin Timberlake and Robert Pattinson, had violated the Humane Animal Protection Act by buying cat food, wearing cat masks and taking photos with cats.
The allegations, which were first reported by TMZ, allege that the cats had been fed a diet of canned cat food while sitting in a cat-shaped chair.
The Humane Society released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying that the investigation was “ongoing and that the animal welfare violations were committed without the consent of the animals.
The investigation is being led by the U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles.”
Taylor and Swift have also been criticized for their role in cat-sitting at concerts, and the singer has said that she doesn’t care if she has a cat in her house.
“If I get a cat, I will just let it go,” she told Rolling Stone magazine last year.
“It’s so much fun and so easy and so smart.
It will get you so far.
I don’t care.”
