Why do some cats seem to have a hard time sleeping?
Posted by MSNBC on March 21, 2019 01:53:00Cat breeds are a common part of the cat’s lifestyle, so why do some of them seem to struggle sleeping?
We asked some cat breeders to share their theories.
Katie Stadler is a veterinarian at Animal Health Care in Chicago, Illinois.
She said it has to do with the genetics of the breed.
“It has to does with the coat and the way they’re raised, and how they’re bred,” Stadlers said.
“It’s just about genetics and temperament.
If a cat is bred to be shy, it will be very difficult for them to sleep.
It may not be a problem for some breeds, but in general, cats are very sensitive and a lot more timid.”
Stadlers believes some cats with a hard-nosed temperament are simply more aggressive.
“You can have the aggressive breeds, and then you’ll have the soft-nose breeds,” she said.
Some of the cats she breeds for cats with different body types or breeds are more likely to be aggressive with other cats, but other cats will be much more likely.
“A lot of cats are not as aggressive as other breeds,” Stadsler said.
“There are a lot of aggressive cats in some breeds.
But the ones that have that dominant personality, those are the ones I would recommend to owners to be careful of,” she added.
While some cats don’t seem to exhibit a hard edge, there is evidence that some breeds are genetically predisposed to be more aggressive than others.
“If you look at a pedigree, you’ll see that a lot are more aggressive, and they have some very similar traits,” Stadicler said, referring to some of the breeds of cats that tend to be dominant.
Some cats may be more active, but this could be because of other things they’re experiencing.
“If you have a cat who is aggressive, it’s not just the aggression that’s there.
It’s not necessarily a problem,” Stader said.
Some breeds may be predisposing to aggression, but some can be just as active.
