How Jordan Black Cat became a cat lover’s dream
A cat lover in Jordan has turned his passion for the furry creature into a business: selling cats.
“My dream is to own a cat,” said Mohammad al-Khatib, 33, who runs a cat-themed restaurant in the city of Beit Hanoun.
“This is my passion and my dream.
I hope that I will be able to purchase one.”
He said that he would like to own 10 cats and that he could have several more by the time he is 50.
The owner of the cat cafe, who asked not to be named, said that the cats have helped him financially as well as emotionally.
“I’ve bought a cat for my daughter, and it’s been a blessing,” he said.
“She loves cats and she wants to be a cat owner.”
The owner said that since the cafe opened in June 2015, the number of customers has increased by over 200%.
He added that he is currently in the process of expanding his business.
“We hope that people will visit and see our cats,” he explained.
“In order to make this place as popular as possible, I have to pay a lot of attention to our quality and to our customers’ happiness.”
Al-Khattib said that while the cat cafes have been successful so far, he is not sure how he will get a large business, adding that the best way to do so is to provide good quality food and entertainment.
“There are many places in the world where you can buy cheap cat food, but you cannot buy quality food from a cat cafe,” he told Al Jazeera.
“If we could sell more quality food to the public, then we could increase the popularity of our cats.”
