New Zealand cat owner caught on video hitting cat on the head
New Zealand is a country where many people are proud of their domestic animals.
The country’s owners can get away with some pretty outrageous acts in the name of animal welfare, but one cat owner’s video is now making international headlines.
A video of a man hitting a cat with his fist has gone viral on social media, and it’s being shared around the world.
“My cat’s dead, he’s been killed by this guy,” one man says.
The cat in question was named Savannah, after a popular cat and dog video game.
“She’s very beautiful, very loyal, she loves her friends and she’s always looking for a good meal,” said Savannah’s owner, who asked to remain anonymous.
He said his cat Savannah has been with him for over 10 years.
“They have a lot of energy, they have a great appetite.
And she’s very sweet, very affectionate, and she likes to have a little bit of a playmate in the house,” he said.
The video shows the man knocking Savannah over on the floor and then running away.
“I was just shocked that a human being could hurt a cat, especially in a video game,” the man said.
Savannah’s owners say he was angry that the cat didn’t get food, but they say it’s not clear what caused him to lash out.
The man who filmed the video has since deleted the video, but it’s been shared thousands of times on Facebook.
Savannah is believed to be a stray cat, who is being cared for by the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“We have not seen this in any other animal shelter,” said SPCA animal welfare officer Peter McCurdy.
“And I can’t say that I think this is an isolated incident. “
“People are always on the lookout for that next thing to do and the cat is just a perfect example of that.””
